Connecting via WiFi

The FLEX is capable of connecting to a wireless network using the tested and approved dongles available from your dealer. There are two versions:
  1. WiFi Nano (normal range)
  2. WiFi High Gain (longer range)
The minimum signal strength required for music streaming is >50%. The High Gain version of the dongle adds roughly 15-18 percentage points compared to the Nano. In field testing at approximately 125 feet from the wireless access point (and through two walls), the Nano provided 52-57% signal strength compared to the High Gain results of 68-74%.

On-site environmental conditions as well as the construction, location, and proximity of the Flex to the WiFi Access will all impact signal strength on a case-by-case basis. We are aware of current installations with as much as 135 feet, through a couple sheetrock walls performing at 76-80% signal strength using the High Gain Antenna.

IMPORTANT FIRST STEPS:
  1. Before plugging in the power, connect the FLEX using the provided ethernet cable to your router for network access.
  2. Using the provided EAR BUDS connect them to the headphone jack on the front of the FLEX.
  3. Now connect the power supply and be prepared to write down the device IP Address you hear the player read off.
(Note: If you do not hear the IP Address, ask your provider to enable the SonicIP feature)
  4. Open a browser on a laptop/desktop that is connected to the same network and enter the IP Address of the FLEX.
  5. If you are presented with a login screen, refer to the User and PW credentials on the bottom of the FLEX.

    FLEX Login Credentials
Once logged in, you should see the "Settings" tab for "RetailPlayer". Proceed with WiFi instructions below.

Enabling the FLEX to use WiFi:

  1. INSERT the WiFi USB Adapter into either USB port on the front FLEX.
  2. From the Settings Tab, expand Network Settings and use the Wireless SSID drop-down to select your preferred Wireless Network. (see image below)
  3. Assuming the WiFi Network is password protected, use the Security drop-down to select "WPA" and enter the network Password. (see image below)

  4. Step 2. Select Wireless Network SSID from Drop-Down
Step 3. Choose "WPA" and Enter WiFi Password

  5. Click on Submit at the bottom of the page.

The device will apply the configured settings and will reboot. AFTER reboot, the WiFi status should be connected, indicated by a green dot next to the WIRELESS label.

*Yellow indicates an incorrect WiFi Password

  6. Lastly, power OFF the FLEX by removing the power cord from the back of the device. Disconnect the wired Ethernet cable, reconnect the power cord and wait for the device to fully reboot for the wireless connection to be fully functioning.
When the device connects correctly to a wireless network it will be indicated in the web UI as follow:
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
  1. DIFFERENT IP ADDRESS: When the FLEX reconnects via WiFi ONLY, listen for the NEW IP ADDRESS assigned and note for future use when logging into the Web UI.
  2. CHANGES TO YOUR NETWORK: If your Network SSID name or password changes, reconnect the FLEX via wired ethernet and repeat above steps to update the information.
